Sip of the Month: Spring Garden Latte
I'm clinging to spring, though summer is well underway here in Baltimore. Lately I've been visiting On The Hill (a snug cafe in Bolton Hill) crossing my fingers that the "Spring Garden" latte will still be there waiting for me. It appeared on the special menu a few months ago, when the weather was cool enough for sipping hot tea on the stoop. I'm not usually into latte's (said the girl now enjoying what's probably her sixth cup, iced) but the SG, as it's so lovingly abbreviated on the cup, was an easy choice for sip of the month. It's my sincere wish that it will keep it's place on the cafe menu for months to come.
The SG is a mellow mix of green tea, milk, and rose. After ordering, I half expected the color to be green, or petal-pink, but it's more milky banana colored than anything else. It looks nothing like a spring garden, but the taste lives up to the name, reminiscent of nectar and fragrant blooms. When it comes to flavor the rosiness is definitely the star of the show. The milk is a compliment, a smooth medium, rounding out the floral notes and bringing forward the subtle sweetness of the green tea. The whole thing makes for very pleasant sipping, especially on hot days like this. Do go out and try it! Fingers crossed, it will still be there waiting for you.
